What goes into RESTORE
We brew the calendula, blend the oils and whip the butters ourselves, in small batches in Montclair, New Jersey. Here is what each ingredient is, how we use it, and the complete list for every formula.
Lavender
Two forms of the same plant: the dried flower buds, and an essential oil distilled from French lavender.
The buds are folded into the face soap, where they show as small flecks. The oil is the only scent in the night serum, and it goes into the serum mist and the Restoration Balm too.
Calendula
Calendula is the pot marigold, a bright orange flower.
We steep the dried flowers into a tea, mix it with a tea of aloe vera, and finish it with clary sage, sage, ylang-ylang and French lavender oils. That brew is the Rejuvenation Serum Mist.
Rose
Two roses: dried rose petals, and rose geranium oil, from the leaves of a scented geranium with a rose-like smell.
The petals go into the face soap with the lavender. Rose geranium scents the Exfoliating Scrub, alongside sandalwood, and the Hydrating Facial Serum, the day serum.
Shea butter
A rich butter made from the nuts of the shea tree. We never use it on its own.
Shea, mango and cocoa butters are whipped together with hemp seed oil and aloe vera. On its own, that is Pure + Natural. Egyptian Musk adds Egyptian and Nubian musk oils, and the Restoration Balm adds seven essential oils.
Charcoal
Charcoal made from coconut. It gives the face soap its deep black color.
It is cut into an aloe vera and hemp seed oil soap base with lavender buds and rose petals, for the first step of the ritual.
In almost everything we make
Hemp seed oil
The base oil of RESTORE. It is in the soap base, the scrub, both serums, both body butters and the balm. In the night serum it is everything but the lavender.
In 7 of 9 formulasAloe vera
Used three ways: as a soap base, as an extract, and brewed into a tea for the serum mist. It is in everything except the two serums.
